Don't know why I just don't get sick of this song for years already... Whenever I feel screwed up I'll listen to this, and Billie's voice is really the besttt in the whole world to me. Yep, so this is why he composed the song:
"However, Billie Joe Armstrong has confirmed that the song was written as a memorial to his father, a jazz musician and truck driver, who died of esophageal cancer in 1982 when Armstrong was only ten years old. When Billy was at his father's funeral, he started crying, ran home and locked himself in his room. When his mother returned she knocked on the door and Billy simply replied "Wake me up when September ends."
Reallyy touching isn't it! I forgot how long ago was it but when I heard this song for the first time in my mum's salon, I fell in love with it & everyday it would replay on my ipod for a thousand times really lol. Was crazy, and till now I'm still in love w this song & Green Day (: which is why I love them so much haha I'm willing to go to their concert again even if it's seeing them from a few hundred metres away and getting pushed & squeezed by mobs of crazy fans who are maybe many times larger & stronger than me & getting sweaty when I don't even get a clear glimpse of their face or the stage. Their music just means a WHOLE lot to me.
Yep seeing this video & the pain on his face... you'll just understand what this whole song is about.
