Hello electricfridays
My mum and sis just revealed to me that they have been digging out old photos from my blog, which reminded me of its existence. Been wanting to update this space with the things I'm grateful for, and with my future plans so that a few years down the road, I can remember why I chose the path I have chosen!
Things that I'm grateful for
#My mum recovering from hyperthyroidism
#Beautiful cousins, ahgong, and relatives in Kuantan & Kuching
#Lovely home in Singapore
#Learning things from a not-so-good internship @a certain law firm in May, but having amazing lunches and 2 hilarious work buddies
#Being able to keep in touch with a few DHS friends, and steady relationships with my 2 best buds, Clara & YJ
#Successful, God-centered, LDR
#Smooth university applications
#Being able to contribute to church, in handling p1 in catechism, singing for mass, and serving the needy through SSVP
My mum told me that she heard the radio DJ saying that the key to happiness, is to keep a "Gratitude Journal", where you list 3 things you are thankful for each day. Like what Archbishop says, we often fail to acknowledge God in our blessings, but often blame him in our sufferings. That is the kind of double standard we shouldn't be holding.
Right now, I'm in the midst of the long post-As break that was so craved for this time last year. It's pretty amazing, how time just cruelly ticks by without a tinge of hesitation. It feels surreal, and the initial electric, euphoric feeling of liberation is beginning to wear off. It is so easy to become discontented with all the blessings you have, and slowly fall into laziness and to rest on my laurels once again.
I had many fantastic plans last year, which I cooked up excitedly while prepping for the As. I wanted to chill by the pool and read novels, devote lots of time to my family and do part time jobs to earn cash.
Then university applications, scholarship interviews overshadowed whatever desires I had, and practicality sank in. The need to do internships that were law-related, need to pick up driving, and a new skill.
Things I am in the midst of accomplishing/ or have accomplished ever since school ended
#Awaken (Dec 13)
#Trip to Msia (Dec 13)
#Helping my mum out with the salons (Jan 14)
#2 weeks attachment @ A&G (Feb 14)
#Driving related lessons (Mar 14)
#Intern @ Africa SE Asia Chamber of Commerce (Mar 14)
#Pro bono Services with Clara (Apr 14)
#Picking up piano once again, and motivated to master Wake me up when september ends (Apr 14)
#Started to swim again with my parents (Apr 14)
#Intern & JT LLC (May 14)
& of course, the uni apps and scholarship applications…
I've had a great time so far! Just that I have not done as much as I want to. To read novels, read scripture regularly and to really tidy up my barang. June - Aug will be the time for me to do so!
I have also thought a long time about the future plans after being blessed with many uni course options.. And I have finally decided with God's help and the support of all my friends and family members.
Looking forward to the last 3 months of freedom before school starts.
Much love,
Irene
